recumbent cycle Also called a bent; 'bent; recumbent. A pedalcycle that is designed to be ridden either sitting back with the legs out in front, prone (laying chest down with the head forward), or supine (laying down with the feet first). In fact, the sitting up position has been almost universally adopted for recumbent bicycles, since the others are uncomfortable, dangerous, and sometimes awkward.

The common use of the recumbent position for human powered vehicles (HPVs) has caused some confusion. An HPV is faired, but a recumbent cycle is not
